[OFFICIAL] Napoli announces the signing of Striker Victor Osimhen.

TRANSFER

Victor Osimhen
The Nigerian international striker has joined the Serie A side on a big money deal, having been linked with several top European clubs this summer

Napoli have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international forward Victor Osimhen from Lille.

The striker, who scored 18 goals in 38 appearances for the Ligue 1 side in the 2019-20 season, moves to Naples in a deal reported to be worth €50 million (£45m/$59m).

Osimhen had been linked with several top European clubs following his impressive goalscoring season, including Arsenal and Liverpool, although he will appear in Serie A in the 2020-21 campaign.

He was hugely impressive in Belgium as he managed 36 goals in 37 appearances, earning him a €14m (£13m/$17m) move to Ligue 1, where his impressive scoring form continued.

Osimhen will spearhead Napoli's attack next season as they look to return to the Champions League having missed out this year. The Neapolitan side will finish only seventh in Serie A, although they have guaranteed qualification for the Europa League group stage by winning the Coppa Italia.

Big things are expected of the highly-rated 21-year-old, with Osimhen capable of making a similar impact at Napoli as Diego Maradona once did, according to the head of Nigerian football, Amaju Pinnick.

Pinnick told Radio Kiss Kiss last week: "I think Victor Osimhen is an excellent signing for Napoli. I’ve followed them from when they had Maradona. Naples is a proud city and also in football terms.

"Osimhen is a source of pride for African football. He’s someone who is disciplined but focused on objectives, and if he wants something, he knows how to get it. He made the right decision for his career. I already believe he’ll receive the right support from the club and its fans.

"Napoli are the right club for him to achieve important results, and Osimhen will always give his best. I’ll say it now: Victor will do everything possible to match and even break the records set by a legend like Maradona.

"I talked to Victor just a few minutes ago, he’s very excited about his new experience and new club. Napoli is a big name in world football. It’ll be a new challenge for him and he told me: ‘President, I’ll make Naples proud'.

"If he gets the right support, I guarantee he’ll stick to his word and make you all proud. Believe in him and he’ll help the team achieve their objectives. I’ll come to Naples next season to watch some of their games. Osimhen is young and could stay at Napoli for a long time."

FIFA president Infantino faces Swiss criminal proceedings.

WORLD CUP
The head of world football's governing body has denied any wrongdoing in relation to the accusations

The Swiss special prosecutor has opened criminal proceedings against FIFA president Gianni Infantino relating to dealings with the country's attorney general Michael Lauber.

Lauber offered to resign from his position last week after a court claimed he covered up undisclosed meetings with the head of football's governing body and lied to supervisors while his office probed alleged corruption relating to FIFA.

Stefan Keller was appointed as special prosecutor to review criminal complaints against Infantino, Lauber and other individuals.

Proceedings have consequently commenced against Infantino and the chief public prosecutor of Upper Valais, Rinaldo Arnold.

Keller has also requested permission to open proceedings against Lauber.

A statement from the Swiss Federal Council said Keller had “reached the conclusion that, in connection with the meetings between Attorney General Lauber and FIFA president Gianni Infantino and the chief public prosecutor of the Upper Valais, there are indications of criminal conduct”.

Both Infantino and Lauber have denied any wrongdoing.

FIFA has declined to comment to media on this latest legal development. Last month, Infantino said: "To meet with the head prosecutor or attorney general of Switzerland is perfectly legitimate and it’s perfectly legal."

The Federal Council statement added: "The presumption of innocence applies to attorney general Michael Lauber, FIFA president Gianni Infantino and chief public prosecutor Rinaldo Arnold. The special federal public prosecutor is independent in his activities."

The allegations against Infantino and Arnold “concern abuse of public office, breach of official secrecy, assisting offenders and incitement to these acts”, the statement said.

Infantino became FIFA president in 2016, after his predecessor Sepp Blatter was forced to resign the year before over corruption allegations. In December 2015, Blatter was banned from all football-related activities for eight years, later reduced to six on appeal.

Speaking in 2016 after his appointment as Blatter’s successor at a FIFA Congress meeting, Infantino said: "I cannot express my feelings in this moment. We will restore the image and the respect of FIFA and everyone in the world will applaud us. We are finally going to ensure that we can once again focus on the beautiful game of football."

Infantino, who previously worked as secretary general of UEFA, was subsequently reelected to his post at FIFA in June 2019, and in January of this year was elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

[UPDATED] Today's Transfer News

Wolves Traore stance
Despite mass interest in their winger adama Traore Wolves have maintained that the player will not be sold.

The Spaniard has enjoyed perhaps his best season
to date with his combination of power and pace
causing untold problems for defences

But according to the Birmingham Mail the Midlands outfit have no intention of selling.

Arteta's Sokratis message
Mikel Arteta has told Sokratis Papastathopoulos that he has no future at Arsenal.

The Spaniard is set to revamp his squad at the Emirates and has deemed the Greek defender surplus to requirements.

Juve close in on Milik
Juventus are closing in on the signing of Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli according to Gianluca DI Marzio.

The Napoli striker is thought to have agreed personal terms with just a fee needing to be agreed.

Federico Bernardeschi could yet be offered up as part of the deal.

Atletico reject Arsenal's Partey bid
Atletico Madrid have reportedly rejected an offer from Arsenal for midfielder Thomas Partey.

According to Get French Football News, the Gunners bid £22.5m plus Matteo Guendouzi in exchange for the 27-year-old.

They add that Atletico knocked back the offer as they only want a straight cash sale for Partey, whose release clause stands at £45.6million.

Palace to listen to Zaha offers
Crystal Palace are set to listen to offers for Wilfried Zaha this summer.

The talented 27-year-old - who has three years left on his contract - is available at the right price with the Eagles privately prepared to grant his wish of playing at a higher level.

Everton are still interested after having two bids rejected last year and are expected to re-enter the bidding this time around. Boss Carlo Ancelotti is a big admirer.

A number of rival clubs are also set to return to the table after Palace boss Roy Hodgson confirmed on Sunday that he is resigned to losing his prize asset.

Man City in Torres talks
Man City are in advanced discussions with Valencia over the potential signing of Ferran Torres.

The talented winger, 20, is out of contract next summer and City are hopeful of striking a bargain with the La Liga club for his services.

However Valencia are holding out for £40million for Torres, and have even asked City to include midfielder Yangel Herrera as part of the deal, as reports The Mail.

EXCLUSIVE: Villa owner sets Grealish price tag
Aston Villa’s stubborn co-owner Nassef Sawiris is set to insist Manchester United cough up at least £80million for Jack Grealish.

United are favourites for Grealish’s signature but Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is also a big admirer.

The Villa captain is considering his future this week despite helping his boyhood team to Premier League survival.

Grealish,24, scored his ninth of the season on the final day in the draw at West Ham to clinch safety.

He loyally stood by Villa when they went down previously and was a key man in their promotion last season.

Lallana completes Brighton switch
Adam Lallana has completed his move to Brighton and Hove Albion, following the end of his Liverpool contract.

Lallana has inked a three-year deal at the Amex Stadium, as he returns to the south coast six years after leaving boyhood club Southampton.

He will wear the No.14 shirt with the Seagulls.

Head coach Graham Potter said, “There is no doubting Adam’s quality, and if you look at his footballing CV his ability is clear for everyone to see.

“He has played at the very highest level, for both club and country, and achieved great things. He has a wealth of experience alongside his technical quality.

“The honours he won during his time at Liverpool, and the high regard in which he is held at Anfield, only further underline his ability and character.”

Lampard on Kepa future
Frank Lampard says it would be “wrong” for him to make a decision on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future before Saturday’s FA Cup final but admitted he was weighing up the club’s goalkeeper situation.

The £71.6million stopper was dropped to the bench for Chelsea’s crucial final game of the season against Wolves in favour of 38-year-old Willy Caballero.

Asked after the match whether he needed to consider Arrizabalaga’s future, Lampard replied: “I have long, hard thinks about everything, not just individual positions but how we are as a team.

“The idea that we haven’t kept a clean sheet is definitely not just a reflection of the goalkeeper, but something that we have to work on as a team. How we train and maybe how we improve going forward.

“I don’t want to pinpoint it on Kepa. [The] Kepa decision was a choice, probably in recent form and recent situation [it’s] a tough time for him.”

Hughton keen on Hornets post
Chris Hughton is said to be keen on the vacant managerial role at Watford, according to Herts Live.

The ex-Brighton boss has recently been interviewed by Championship side Bristol City with a view to taking over the reins at Ashton Gate.

However following Watford’s dismissal of Nigel Pearson, Hughton could now be a candidate for the hot seat at Vicarage Road.

Besiktas want Pukki
Norwich face a fight to keep hold of striker Teemu Pukki who is attracting interest from Turkish outfit Besiktas.

The Finnish hitman scored 11 goals in the Premier League over the season but could be offloaded to ease the club’s finances.

Fotosport report Besiktas see the 30-year-old as an ideal replacement for Burak Yilmaz, who is set to join Lille.

Maddison pens new deal
Leicester have fended off any interest from Man Utd in playmaker James Maddison to tie him down to a new four-year contract.

Maddison was one of The Foxes’ star performers of the season and has seen his salary at the King Power more than doubled to a cool £110,000 per week.

The deal only adds an extra year to Maddison’s previous contract, which was due to expire in 2023, but is a clear signal of intent from Leicester, who are not keen on selling their key players.

According to Goal, Maddison has agreed to the terms of the deal, with an official announcement from the club expected this week.

Chelsea make Willian breakthrough
Chelsea have reportedly made a breakthrough in talks with forward Willian, according to Sky Sport.

The Brazilian’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, with talks previously at a stalemate as he held out for a longer deal.

Frank Lampard is keen to keep hold of the star, and looks to be on the verge of retaining the 31-year-old.

Henderson wants assurances
Chelsea are ready to hand Dean Henderson a £170,000-a-week deal if he fails to get the guarantees he is seeking about his future at Manchester United.

Henderson has returned to Old Trafford at the end of a second successive season on loan with Sheffield United.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to tie him up on a new and improved long-term contract.

But England hopeful Hendo, 23, won’t put pen to paper unless he gets an assurance from Solskjaer that he will start next season as his first-choice keeper.

Bayern in for Aarons
Bayern Munich have made an approach to Norwich full-back Max Aarons, reports Sky Germany.

The Bundesliga champions are keen on signing the 20-year-old, who has been attracting the interest of Tottenham.

With Norwich relegated back down to the Championship, they will likely cash in on the defender, who can play on either the left or his more natural right flank.

Manchester United have yet to make a formal offer to Borussia Dortmund for their No.1 summer transfer target Jadon Sancho.

Reports from Germany claimed United have had a £89.3million opening bid for England winger Sancho rejected by Dortmund, who want at least £100m for their prized asset.

But, according to United sources, no formal offer has been made for Sancho, despite the 20-year-old being boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top summer target.

United are understood to be prepared to go to £80m for Sancho, feeling that is a fair price for the player in the current market, but Dortmund are certain to hold out for more in what could become a long-running transfer saga.

Declan Rice latest
Declan Rice has been linked with a Chelsea move.

But West Ham manager David Moyes is expecting no movement until after his summer holiday and remains confident of keeping the youngster.

Moyes said on Sunday: “He’s under contract and he’s going on holiday as far as I know, hopefully he’ll be selected for England as well and he’ll be back with us for pre-season in three weeks.

“Declan should have attention because he is such a good player. But, he’s not going anywhere unless you get one of those steel vans that have the cash in it? You better bring one of them.”

David Moyes is confident of keeping Declan Rice

Lovren leaves
Dejan Lovren has left Liverpool.

The Reds have confirmed he has made a move to Zenit St Petersburg.

Celtic eye West Ham flop
Celtic are reportedly in advanced talks over a loan deal for West Ham flop Albian Ajeti.

Ajeti has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League since a £8million move from Basel, making just nine substitute appearances.

But Celtic are long-term admirers of Ajeti and are hoping to secure a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for around £5m, according to Sky Sports.

Albian Ajeti is set to leave West Ham for Celtic.

Lampard confirms Pedro exit
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard confirmed the departure of Pedro after their win over Wolves.

“The lads have just pretty much serenaded Pedro in the changing room and rightly so because of the career he has had generally, and for this club,” said Lampard.

“It was his last Premier League game, but the impact he has had here is huge.

“I want to say a big thanks to Peds and wish him well as he goes forward.

“He is here for the remainder of games, but a big player of the club leaves and the spirit of the club I saw afterwards was pretty special.”

Pedro is leaving Chelsea on a free this summer

Vertonghen sends message
Jan Vertonghen has sent a message to Tottenham fans confirming his departure.

The Belgian defender leaves on a free transfer after eight years at the club.

Moyes on West Ham plans
David Moyes had his say on West Ham’s summer transfer plans after their season ended with Premier League survival.

Moyes told Sky Sports: “I think you have got to remember that the club spent £200million [recently].

“We’ll try and add to it if we can, if we can’t we’ll go with what we’ve got and there are a lot who can improve and a lot who have since lockdown, Micky Antonio is an example of that. We’ll try and get the best out of the players and if we can add to it we will do.”

Asked whether he plans to get his transfer business done early: “I don’t think that will happen, as much as ideally everybody would like it to but I don’t think the market will play out that way.

“I may be wrong and if you look at the history of the markets, all of the things go on during the last day of the transfer market, yellow ties and all that stuff.”

David Moyes has had his say on West Ham's summer transfer

Liverpool eye Dejan Lovren replacement
Liverpool have reportedly opened talks over a move for Ozan Kabak.

According to Bild, Turkish centre-back Kabak has been identified as an ideal replacement for Dejan Lovren as the summer transfer window opens.

Lovren is expected to leave the club this summer with reports he is on the verge of heading to Zenit St Petersburg.

And youngster Kabak could offer Klopp an ideal replacement with claims the Reds are already in talks with the Bundesliga club over a move.

It is said Schalke are demadning €35m (£31.8m) for the 20-year-old, who they snapped up for €15m (£13.5m) last summer from Stuttgart.

EPL: Leicester City's Ndidi shares top tackler accolade with Manchester United's Wan-Bissaka

WILFRED NDIDI

LEICESTER CITY
The Nigerian missed out on a Champions League place but ended the 2019-20 campaign at the top of the top tackler chart alongside the Red Devil.
Wilfred Ndidi has finished the 2019-20 English Premier League season as the joint top tackler alongside Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while his Leicester City teammate Ricardo Pereira finished in third place.

The Nigeria international was on parade from start to finish in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at home to the Red Devils, which means they fell just short of a place in next season’s Champions League.

Needing a win over the Old Trafford giants to seal the berth to Europe’s elite club competition following Chelsea’s victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brendan Rodgers’ men were unable to find the net against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, who got their goals through Bruno Fernandes’ penalty and Jesse Lingard.

Since his move from Belgian top-flight side Genk, the 23-year-old has been outstanding for the Foxes in the English elite division.

In his first season, the Super Eagles star topped the tacklers’ chart with 138 successes and in the process was named as Leicester City’s Young Player of the Year for the 2017/18 season.

He repeated that feat the following season after garnering 144 tackles ahead of Idrissa Gueye (143) and Wan-Bissaka (128) – making history by becoming the first player to lead the top of tackle charts for two consecutive seasons.

With this, he extended that feat to become the first player to top this category in three consecutive seasons.

The Super Eagles star will now shift his attention to helping Brendan Rodgers’ men to an impressive outing in the Europa League next term.

This season, Ndidi featured in 33 Premier League games with two goals to his name for the King Power Stadium outfit.

In a recent chat with Out of Home Podcast, the 23-year-old revealed playing under Rodgers has improved him as a player.

“Playing under [Brendan] Rodgers has changed my game so much after from the fact that I moved from an attacking team to a possession team,” he said.

“When he [Rodgers] came, he was trying to make us understand that he will always be there for us. He makes time to meet the players individually and tries to make us understand that there is space in the sky for us to improve.

“Since he came, I won’t lie to you; I have improved as a player because I now understand simple things I never knew.

“No disrespect to other managers, Brendan took his time to explain things like understanding space, understanding the game, where you can actually be and how you can actually improve on yourself and your quality.”

[UPDATED] Transfer News

Thiago Alcantara 'sees his future at Liverpool'
The rumour linking Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara with Liverpool is one that is refusing to go away, and it is all over the German media again in the aftermath of the Reds clinching the Premier League title.
Munich-based publication Abendzeitung - via Sport Witness - are still very much banging the Thiago to Merseyside drum, and they say that the midfielder has said his goodbyes in Bavaria and now “sees his future” at Anfield, although the clubs remain around €10m apart on a fee.

Unai Emery is back in business
Unai Emery is back in football as the new boss of Villareal.
The Spaniard has been out of the game ever since being sacked from Arsenal in November, but he’s resurfaced with the Yellow Submarine, who finished fifth in La Liga this season.

Sergio Ramos 'makes huge contract demand'
Sergio Ramos has entered the last year of his contract at Real Madrid, and he wants a cool €17million to renew. That’s according to reports in Spain anyway, which have been cited by Yahoo Sports.
Ramos has just got his hands on his fifth La Liga title, and has scored a remarkable and career-high 13 goals this season.

Antonio Conte blasts "insulting" Lautaro Martinez rumours
Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte claims suggestions that forward Lautaro Martinez is eyeing a move away from club are “insulting”.
The Argentinean has long been linked with a switch to Barcelona, but his manager isn’t having any of it.
“The rumours around him are insulting his intelligence and trying to stir up trouble, claiming he is thinking about another club,” said the ex-Chelsea boss.
Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta has also suggested that a new contract could be in the offing for the forward.

Arsenal confident on Willian
Willian could follow in the footsteps of his Brazil team-mate David Luiz in swapping Stamford Bridge for The Emirates later this summer.
It’s long been reported that the 31-year-old winger, who has made over 300 appearances for the Blues since joining in 2013, favours a stay in London.
He reportedly turned down a move to MLS side Inter Miami amid contract negotiations with his club. It’s said he wants a longer deal than the one-year extension they’re offering him.
The latest report from ESPN Brazil reporter Bruno Vicari suggests that Arsenal are optimistic of their chances of signing Willian as negotiations continue with the club.
His current contract was extended to cover the remainder of the protracted season, but unless he signs an extension, he’ll be a free agent next month.

Liverpool 'pushing' for Osimhen
Liverpool CEO Peter Moore is reportedly pushing for the club to sign in-demand Lille striker Victor Osimhen this summer.
The 21-year-old has been widely linked with an estimated £80million move to Serie A side Napoli but the Reds could be about to make their move.
According to RAI Sport journalist Ciro Venerato, via Area Napoli, Liverpool’s hierarchy are keen to sign the forward, yet remain cautious about spending money in uncertain financial times.
A big-money move for the Nigerian forward seems unlikely despite the Reds clearly expressing interest in bringing Osimhen to Anfield.

Ligue 1 interest in Karius
Ligue 1 side Montpellier are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius who has been on loan away from Merseyside for the past two seasons.
Goal reports that the French side are keen on landing the goalkeeper who has been informed that he is no longer needed at Anfield.
The 27-year-old shot-stopper will be allowed to leave for a fee of £6m this summer and Montpellier are the latest club to join the race to sign him.
Besiktas have previously expressed interest in Karius after the goalkeeper’s loan spell at the club but a move has not yet developed.

Porto set asking price for Arsenal target
It’s been revealed what it would cost to land Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira, following the player’s come and get me plea earlier this week.
The 28-year-old Portugal international has just won his second Primeira Liga title with Porto and was very complimentary about the job Mikel Arteta is doing at the Emirates.
“(Arteta) is doing a really, really, good job there,” he told Stats Perform News. “He is a really good coach and Arsenal play very good football.
“The style…I think I can fit there (at Arsenal). Of course, I like to be here in Porto, to be here in my country, but I want to be in a better league like the Premier League.”
Porto are said to be holding out for at least €40million (£36m) for Pereira, according to Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias (via Sport Witness).

Dortmund ‘planning’ for Sancho departure
United’s hopes of signing Jadon Sancho this summer have been boosted by Borussia Dortmund reportedly planning for the winger’s departure.
According to the Telegraph, the Bundesliga side have begun their search for a future replacement in the event that Sancho does leave for United in the imminent transfer window.
The report also states that the two clubs are still £20million apart in their valuation of the 20-year-old which means there will need to be negotiations on both sides of the table in the coming months.
Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica has been eyed as a possible replacement for Sancho and could therefore be a key part of the England international being able to move to Old Trafford.

United eye former Everton midfielder
Former Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is believed to be on United’s transfer target list this summer.
Le10Sport, cited by Manchester Evening News, report that the club are interested in signing the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder with midfield reinforcements needed this summer.
The report also suggests that the 30-year-old is willing to stay in the French capital but a move to United could be a possible option.
His defensive abilities may be viewed as a positive for United given that Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay remain the two main defensive options in midfield.

Chelsea identify Chilwell alternative
Chelsea have reportedly identified Robin Gosens as a new target at left-back.
They have eyed Ben Chilwell but are looking at alternatives.
And Kicker now claim the Atalanta defender, 26, is on their radar.

United set to unveil three academy signings
United will soon announce three new academy signings, according to Manchester Evening News.
United are believed to be waiting for international clearance before they can officially announce the signings of Alvaro Fernandez, Marc Jurado and Isak Hansen-Aaroen who will bolster their academy ranks.
The latter became Tromso’s youngest-ever player at the age of 15 earlier this month and will be joining Fernandez (17) and Jurado (16) at the club’s academy set-up in Carrington.
MEN’s report also states that Jurado rejected a three-year deal from Barcelona and instead decided on a move to United.

Chelsea prepared to ‘double wages’ of United goalkeeper
Chelsea are reportedly prepared to double the wages of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson who is currently on loan at Sheffield United.
According to Manchester Evening News, the 23-year-old’s representatives have been in contact with Chelsea about the possibility of a move and he is believed to be unwilling to play second fiddle to David De Gea next season.
Solskjaer has reiterated throughout this season that De Gea remains world class and part of his plans despite several high profile errors - two of which came against Chelsea in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat.
While United will be keen to prevent Henderson moving to a direct rival, the likelihood of him staying at Old Trafford as second choice remains minimal.

Chelsea aiming for ‘impossible’ Ter Stegen deal
Chelsea will attempt to sign Marc-Andre ter Stegen, according to reports.
The Barcelona shot-stopper is highly-regarded across Europe and has been earmarked by Frank Lampard as a possible replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga -- the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.
The Blues are all too aware of how hard it will be to agree a deal with Barca but feel confident in mounting an attempt regardless, according to Mundo Deportivo .
Chelsea will be monitoring the 28-year-old’s contract negotiations with Barcelona in the hope it could open the door to him moving to Stamford Bridge.

Pioli signs new AC Milan contract
AC Milan have abandoned plans to appoint Ralf Rangnick as manager after extending current boss Stefano Pioli’s contract by two years.
RB Leipzig chief Rangnick was in line to take over the reins at the San Siro at the end of this season, but Milan have stuck with Pioli. Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis was thought to be behind the pursuit of Rangnick, but praised Pioli’s role in the club’s recent revival.
“Stefano has shown he can deliver the vision of football we have for our club -- exciting, progressive and passionate,” Gazidis said.
“This is not a decision based on recent victories, but one based on how Stefano has built team spirit and unity of purpose, the way he has improved the performances of the individual players and the collective team.”

Manchester City have successfully overturned their two-year ban from European club competitions.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) announced the club were cleared of "disguising equity funds as sponsorship contributions".

Uefa issued the ban in February after ruling City had committed "serious breaches" of Financial Fair Play regulations between 2012 and 2016.

City's fine has been cut from 30m euros (£26.9m) to 10m euros.

In delivering the ruling on Monday, Cas said City did "fail to cooperate with Uefa authorities" but overturned the decision by Uefa's club financial control body (CFCB) to ban them.

City said the decision was "validation of the club's position and the body of evidence that it was able to present".

"The club wishes to thank the panel members for their diligence and the due process that they administered," City added.

What did the ruling say?
Cas' ruling means City, who are guaranteed to finish second in the Premier League this season, will play in the 2020-21 Champions League.

In this year's competition, Pep Guardiola's side face Real Madrid in their last-16 second leg at Etihad Stadium on 7 August. They lead 2-1 from the first leg and will face Juventus or Lyon if they progress.

Cas, who will provide full written reasons for the ruling "in a few days" said the decision "emphasised that most of the alleged breaches reported by the adjudicatory chamber of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred".

It added that in clearing City of the more serious charges surrounding "dishonest concealment" of sponsorship deals it was "not appropriate to impose a ban on participating in Uefa's club competitions" for the lesser charge of "obstructing the CFCB's investigations".

On reducing the fine, Cas said that, while it considered "the importance of the co-operation of clubs in investigations conducted by the CFCB" and Manchester City's "disregard of such principle and its obstruction of the investigations", the Cas panel "considered it appropriate to reduce Uefa's initial fine by two-thirds".

It added: "The final award with reasons will be published on the Cas website in a few days."

Uefa said it noted there was "insufficient conclusive evidence to uphold all of the CFCB's conclusions in this specific case and that many of the alleged breaches were time-barred".

The governing body added: "Over the last few years, Financial Fair Play has played a significant role in protecting clubs and helping them become financially sustainable and Uefa and the European Club Association remain committed to its principles."

City 'hugely satisfied' with ruling - analysis
Simon Stone, BBC Sport

Privately, City are hugely satisfied with today's decision. For, while the verdict is being viewed as a major blow for the whole FFP concept, senior sources at the club insist their argument - and resistance to complying with the initial hearing - was because of opposition to the process they were being judged by, not the regulation itself.

City could not see how it was fair that the evidence being used against them was obtained illegally particularly as, in their view, it created a distorted picture of the reality.

Even as their two-year ban was being announced in February, the club were confident it would be overturned if they were given what, in their eyes, constituted a fair hearing and they now feel vindicated at how the situation has unfolded.

What were City accused of?
Uefa launched an investigation after German newspaper Der Spiegel published leaked documents in November 2018 alleging City had inflated the value of a sponsorship deal, misleading European football's governing body.

Reports alleged City - who have always denied wrongdoing - deliberately misled Uefa so they could meet FFP rules requiring clubs to break even.

On 14 February, the independent adjudicatory chamber of the CFCB said City had broken the rules by "overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to Uefa between 2012 and 2016".

It added that City had "failed to cooperate in the investigation".

City, who have been owned by Sheikh Mansour since 2008, were fined £49m in 2014 for a previous breach of regulations.

What was City's case?
City failed in an initial bid to have Cas halt Uefa's investigation in November last year.

After the two-year ban was announced, City said the process that led to it was "flawed" and "prejudicial" and immediately announced their intention to appeal.

They alleged they had been the victim of an illegal hack by people who had the express intention of damaging their reputation and that the emails were being used as the basis for reports which were being taken out of context.

City also believed the CFCB was not independent and ended up being distrustful of it, partly because of the amount of secretive information the club felt was leaked to the media.

City boss Guardiola had said on Friday that he was "fully confident about what the club has done".

What next?
Uefa could appeal against the decision in the Swiss federal courts.

It is unlikely that any such appeal would be heard before the 2020-21 Champions League starts.

The Premier League could have looked to take action as well if the ban had been upheld because their own FFP rules are similar - but not exactly the same - as Uefa's.

'Short of a full exoneration' - analysis
Dan Roan, BBC sports editor

Over the last decade, City have been the dominant force in the English game, but few results have been as important as this one.

An upheld two-year ban would have been disastrous for the club's finances, their chances of keeping their best players and, above all, their reputation.

Instead, City can breathe a huge sigh of relief, and the uncertainty instead surrounds Uefa and its financial rules.

The credibility off FFP lies in tatters. After all, how can FFP survive after one of the world's richest clubs, having been found guilty of obstructing a Uefa investigation, a club that was found to have breached the rules in 2014, walk away with just a 10m euros fine?

Many will wonder what kind of deterrent that sets for other clubs, especially clubs with such financial resources. It shows how difficult it has become for governing bodies to enforce the rules.

The language that Cas uses is important. Uefa noted that Cas found "insufficient conclusive evidence" to uphold all of its conclusions, not 'no evidence'. And some allegations were dismissed because they were more than five years old. And, because City were found to have failed to co-operate, this falls short of a full exoneration.

But City are unlikely to care too much about that and what a story it would be if they can follow this up with a first Champions League success.

Christopher Aurier was fatally wounded during the early hours of Monday morning after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach

Christopher Aurier, the brother of Tottenham defender Serge, has been shot and killed outside a French nightclub.

The 26-year-old was fatally wounded in the early hours of Monday morning after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Local residents in Toulouse called police after discovering Aurier, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.

French authorities have launched an investigation into who is responsible for the killing, with the guilty party reportedly still at large after fleeing the scene.

Serge Aurier had been in Premier League action for Spurs a matter of hours before the incident occurred, with the 27-year-old taking in a north London derby date with Arsenal.

Tottenham have released a statement offering their condolences, which reads: “The club is deeply saddened to confirm media reports that Serge Aurier’s brother passed away in the early hours of this morning.

“Everybody at the club sends their sincerest condolences to Serge and his family. Our thoughts are with them all.”

Christopher, like his brother, was a footballer and on the books at French fifth division side Toulouse Rodeo.

He came close to beating Serge to a move to England back in 2011, with a trial taken in at Brentford.

Of that experience, he told reporters in 2017: “Brentford were in League One at the time. Everything went well with my trial, but I could not speak English at the time.

“The coach [Uwe Rosler] told me: ‘It's a shame you can't understand my instructions. I'd have signed you otherwise’.”

Christopher started out alongside Serge at RC Lens, but did not make a breakthrough at the highest level.

He was a big supporter of his older sibling’s career, with one member of the Aurier family going on to grace the very top of the game.

Serge, after catching the eye at Lens, landed himself a move to Toulouse before eventually ending up at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-German.

From there, he signed for Tottenham in 2017 and has gone on to take in 80 appearances for the club.

The most recent of those saw him play the full 90 minutes for Spurs as they secured a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Arsenal.

Serge has also collected 62 caps for the Ivory Coast and formed part of their title-winning squad at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
